DJ P MONTANA – RAH BOY, VOL 1 (MIXTAPE REVIEW) [@DJ_PMONTANA] [RAHBOYMUSIC]

DJ P Montana has been championed as one of the best DJs in the UK, as well as being credited as a taste-maker for his renowned DJ sets celebrating the new generation of UK artists whilst pushing the emerging Afro-Bashment sound to the world.

DJ P Montana captures the current landscape of UK music with his full-length compilation mixtape ‘Rah Boy, Vol.1’, a 13 track Afrobeat meets Dancehall infused project that showcases the rise in Afro influenced music in all its glory featuring an all-star cast of the finest homegrown underground acts from the likes of Tion Wayne, Belly Squad, Lotto Boyzz, SNE, Ms Banks any many more bright prospects in the UK music scene!

The mixtape begins with East London music group/collective NSG for “Red Bull”, a smooth Afrobeat influenced production that provides us with energy from the very beginning. The opening track brings out the best in NSG and sets the tone that this project will shine a light on the array of talent we have here in the UK with a distinct, unique sound.

This is followed by Lotto Boyz for “Plantain and Dumplin” as the Birmingham duo show us a different side to their artistry as they slow it down adding a touch of R&B to the infused Afrobeat track.

Baseman and Sona team up for the catchy anthem “Since Then” which was the first track from the project to receive visual treatment. The light-hearted track blends the wavy, easy-going flow of Baseman with the catchy infectious hooks of Sona to present a sing-a-long worthy celebratory track for those progressing and moving forward in life.

DJ P Montana incorporates many elements to ‘Rah Boy, Vol. 1’ to ensure the Afrobeat aspect of the project does not sound too overwhelming for listeners with tracks like “Loving” featuring Paigey Cakey, “Every Time” featuring Big Tobz & Jobey and “Life Right Now” featuring Shauna Shadae & SNE which is reminiscent of a genuine dancehall/reggae sound which proves that the project boasts a well-balanced versatile sound that aims to cater for all.

The hardcore Afrobeat enthusiast would be immersed in tracks like “AMA” featuring GB, “Ghetto” featuring W1zzy & Rays Muzik and “Innocent” featuring Eugy, Kwamz and Flava which stays true to the sound of Afrobeats whilst implementing some well thought out tropical elements to enrich the production and the overall vibe of the project.

The mixtape concludes with a special link up featuring Ms Banks & Tion Wayne for “Make Me Say”. We were pleasantly surprised to hear Ms Banks’ vocal range on the track which compliments the direction of the song extremely well and ends the project on a high.

DJ P Montana has become an icon for his contribution to the British Underground Music scene pushing a new, vibrant sound to the nation. ‘Rah Boy, Vol.1’ is an uplifting project showcasing some of the very best in homegrown UK talent and serves as a reminder of how massive the UK music scene is becoming.

As each artist progresses in their music careers this full-length project from DJ P Montana and the Rah Boy Music brand is the building blocks to discovering and fostering new upcoming artists that will one day become international superstars in their own right.
